Well – I’m here to tell you a little bit about By S-kin and the inspiration behind this brand and where it’s going (and why we’re even launching it within our jewellery brand!) Read on…

Some of you who know my humble beginnings of S-kin may know that S-kin is not my first business. In fact, I actually started an apparel brand in Hanoi, Vietnam selling printed sweatshirts, crystal jewellery and studded denim in 2012 as part of my IB Art project. I started out by making denim shorts that resemble the likes of Runwaydreamz (a 90’s teen MUST have at the time - even though their price point is far too unattainable for a 16 year old) and sold them to friends.

I then moved on to graphic sweatshirts, which was another hobby of mine. I created the designs in Photoshop from googling cliparts and got them printed by a small printer based in Hanoi, and sold them to my small 2012 Instagram following (back when Instagram was in its infancy). I then added handmade crystal chokers and 90’s tattoo chokers to the mix and even launched  a made-to-order clothing line. Unfortunately I had to close down the store when I moved to Melbourne for university.

Fast forward to now, after four years of S-kin Studio Jewelry, I have always had an itch for apparel design, as well as a knack for finding and genuinely loving conscious goods. I strongly believe in buying once and buying well—an ethos my Vietnamese mum has ingrained into me from a young age. And so, By S-kin was born from my yearning for creating products that are consciously made for an elevated life. 

And the name? Well, safe to say S-kin is now part of my identity and I just didn’t want to abandon the name. It’s an extension of our original S-kin Studio brand and pays homage to all our original supporters; for without S-kin Studio Jewelry, there would be no By S-kin. 

Now let’s take a deep dive into the two opening acts of this brand: our Audentis Zodiac Sweatshirt and S-kin Logo Half Zip Pullover.

The Audentis Zodiac Sweatshirt was designed using elements of all our previous collections up until January 2022. At the time of designing the sweatshirt, I wanted to keep it as a special, once off design that really highlights the original brand and our best sellers. So I included motifs from the original jewellery designs, such as Cupid from our Dante ring, the moon & star from our Zodiac necklaces, and the hamsa hand from our Tarot collection. Of course, I also couldn’t go without featuring the quote engraved on our Fortuna ring – ‘Audentis Fortuna Iuvat - Fortune Favours the Brave’.

Now let’s take a look at the S-kin Logo Half Zip Pullover – she’s my version of a go-to jumper that is quick to pop on, easy to style with all other basics in your wardrobe, and is a trusty warm, super soft jumper that springs to life whenever you wear it. The logo is subtle, the colour is unisex, and what I love about it most is the zip – no more metal zips that get stuck half way when you want to cover up on a cold Melbourne morning. Fun fact – this jumper took SO many iterations to get the right colour, stitching, cut and details! It’s going to be your FAVE jumper going into Spring and so timeless for the years beyond.
