Did you know? Moomba has been held annually in Melbourne since 1954, and was thought to be named after an Aboriginal word meaning "Let's get together and have fun”. In actuality, the word moomba has a very different meaning. The Aboriginal words "moom", meaning bottom, and "ba" , which alternatively means "up",was a joke played on the burghers of Melbourne in 1955 when they searched for a name for their celebration of civic pride.
