Behind the Scenes - MAGNOLIA + IRIS

Hey guys! Our Magnolia + Iris collection just launched this month, and I thought I'd write a blog post on how the collection came about, and what it means to me, along with some fun BTS shots we had from the photoshoot.

Behind Magnolia

You may have seen by now that our Magnolia collection launched earlier this month! Magnolia is a collaboration between Lydia and I, and we created a video going behind how we met, and the meaning behind the magnolia flower.

Behind Iris

Iris is the second part to this collection, named after my grandmother, Iris. Since moving to Australia away from my family in Vietnam, my grandmothers, Iris and Patricia, have been a wonderful source of support as well as inspiration for me.

The first piece I designed in this collection was the Ornate Mirror Dangle Earrings, which I had various sketches of but couldn't think of what form of jewellery would best suit the design. I decided to take a trip to country town Paynesville, where my grandmothers reside. From that trip, I was told about grandma Iris' one necklace that she wears day in, day out, which was a heart necklace with a garnet in the center, given by grandpa to her on their anniversary.

I knew that the two pieces could spark a collection that is full of meaning, so I set out to design five other pieces that would complement the vintage & personal aspect of the designs.

The Patricia ring also came about from that trip, when my grandma Patricia, who is the biggest rings lover I know, told me about her Irish wedding ring, the Claddagh, which represents love, loyalty, and friendship. Of course, breathing modern elements to it, our Patricia ring is a modern version that embodies meaning of whatever you wish it to be, whether it is a friendship ring, or a mother-daughter connection, or simply a symbol of self-love.

Our Magnolia + Iris Photoshoot

For this shoot, we wanted to create a beautiful, vintage feel to the images, with moody lighting. We found a beautiful location in St Kilda, and the day was super fun filled with lots of laughter in between shots & stuffing our faces with chips (haha!).
