So, how do you know which of these to pick for your ear stack? Keep reading to find out whether your next piercing should be in 18K Gold Filled or 14K Solid Gold!

18K Gold Filled

Gold Filled jewelry has a thick layer of 5% solid gold bonded onto the base layer, usually brass or sterling silver. For all of our Gold Fill Piercing Earrings we have used Sterling Silver as the base to minimise any chance of irritations.

It is long-lasting, doesn't tarnish, and is an affordable alternative for many, especially for those who love to swap their piercing pieces around often (after their piercings have healed, of course).

We only recommend our 18K Gold Fill Piercing Earrings for those that have fully healed piercings.  

14K Solid Gold

Solid Gold jewelry on the other hand is made with 58.5% solid gold mixed with other alloys, which makes it super durable and longer lasting. If cared for properly, Solid Gold can last a lifetime. It is perfect to get pierced with as it is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin types. 

We only pierce with our 14K Solid Gold Piercing pieces and generally recommend them for all fresh and healing piercings. If you generally have sensitive skin or intend to keep a piercing earring in for a long duration of time we would recommend our 14K Solid Gold Piercing earrings.

 What about 9K Solid Gold?

We also have 9K Solid Gold ear piercings for those who are looking for an in-between. These are made with 37.5% gold mixed with other alloys. It is generally not recommended to pierce with this material as the solid gold percentage is not high enough to ensure biocompatibility.
