At S-kin, we can't get enough of Studio Ghibli, and we're excited to share our favorite must-see spots for Studio Ghibli lovers in both Tokyo and Melbourne. As Chi & Nicole head to Tokyo as part of the Anime Collection campaign, and with other team members Anna and Sam about to head to Japan, we wanted to share some of our favourite locations and help you plan your travel itinerary and make the most of your Studio Ghibli experience.

For those who love Studio Ghibli and everything about it
Located in Mitaka, just outside Tokyo, the Ghibli Museum is a must-visit for any Studio Ghibli fan. The museum is a hub for Studio Ghibli enthusiasts, featuring a vast collection of artwork, including original sketches, storyboards, and even a replica of director Hayao Miyazaki's workspace. The museum also has a screening room where visitors can watch exclusive short films. Don't forget to check out the life-sized Catbus, which is a popular attraction.
Tip: You will need to book your tickets months in advance so make sure you know when the ticket openings are for your desired dates.

For those who love Studio Ghibli and have a sweet tooth
For Studio Ghibli fans with a sweet tooth, Shirohige's Cream Puff Factory in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward is a must-visit. The bakery specializes in cream puffs that are shaped like Totoro and come in various flavors like matcha green tea, vanilla custard, and chocolate. They have seasonal flavours that are limited edition depending on the time of year you go!
Tip: Make sure to go as early as you can as the line can get lengthy.
For those who love Studio Ghibli and cats
Temari no Oshiro is the perfect place for cat lovers looking for a charming cat café with a Studio Ghibli-inspired interior and exterior. It is located within the Kichijouji Petit Mura, a themed shopping and food ‘village,’ and its facade resembles a magical cat-kingdom straight out of a fairy tale book. Visitors can cuddle with dozens of adorable cats, making it one of the top Instagrammable photo spots. The café also offers tasty parfaits with cute cat-shaped cookies as a garnish, making them a must-try for any feline enthusiast.
Tip: Buy the cat snacks just to feed them and get your cute photos with the cats here!
For those who love Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro
Based on the setting of "My Neighbor Totoro," Satsuki and Mei's House is a replica of the house featured in the film. The house is located in Nagakute, and visitors can explore the inside of the house, which has been recreated to look exactly like the one in the film.
Tip: Book your tickets in advance as they cannot be purchased on the day!
For those who love Studio Ghibli and home decor
Do your walls look bare? Browse at Outré for some tasteful prints to decorate your home. Happening on the 19th May 2023 (Friday night) in two sessions, Melbourne is hosting a Candlelight Orchestra: Best of Joe Hisaishi and More. The Candlelight Orchestra event in Melbourne is a must-see for fans of Studio Ghibli movies, as they play a lot of Joe Hisaishi's music. The orchestra will perform some of Hisaishi's best works, including pieces from iconic films such as "Spirited Away," "My Neighbor Totoro," and "Princess Mononoke." With its stunning candlelit setting and beautiful orchestral music, this event promises to be an unforgettable experience for music and anime lovers alike.
Tip: Come super early so that you get your seats without the crowd. Don’t forget to switch off your phone!
