Gold-filled is the closest alternative to solid gold. Gold filled jewelry has a thick layer of solid gold bonded onto the base layer, usually brass or sterling silver. Compared to gold plated which uses a process of electroplating that quickly dips your jewelry in gold, resulting in a miniscule layer of gold, gold-filled is much more durable and long lasting.

There are 3 basic levels of gold jewelry. Solid gold, gold-filled, and gold plated.

  • Solid gold contains the most gold, with 24 karat gold containing 100% gold. Gold-filled jewelry typically contains 5% solid gold in weight, while gold plated contains about 0.001% solid gold in weight.
  • The process of making gold filled jewelry is much different to gold plated jewelry. Gold plated uses an electroplating process that quickly dips your jewelry in gold. With gold-filled, the thick layer of gold is pressure bonded onto the base metal, resulting in a very strong and durable ‘plating’.
  • Gold-filled lasts 10x more than gold plated, making it hypoallergenic for those who cannot wear gold plated. Longer life times mean you are also producing less waste and saving money over time from having to buy more cheap jewelry.

General

1. Do you ship internationally?

Yes we do! Shipping is $10 flat rate for all international orders. Orders over $80 are shipped free!

2. What materials are your jewelry made of?

Currently, all our jewelry are sterling silver or gold-filled. Sterling silver typically lasts for 2-5 years, and may get dull with constant use. Our sterling silver is polished to a sparkly shiny finish, and sometimes also rhodium plated for that extra durability. Check the individual product page for detailed material breakdown.

Our gold-filled jewelry, in contrast to gold-plated jewelry, is much more durable as it contains a much thicker layer of gold. Gold-plated jewelry fade quickly, and depending on the base material (if brass or copper), can oxidize and give you that blackened, oxidized appearance. Gold-filled jewelry, however, will last 2-5 years with care, and can be more friendly to the everyday wearer with slower wear and tear.

See our materials & care page.

3. Do you offer this design in other finishes?

For some designs we are able to offer in both silver and gold-filled. Those that are not available in both are not in our production plan for other finishes. Nonetheless, we do change up time to time so best to stay updated for new releases!

4. What currency is your website in?

All of our products are displayed in AUD (Australian Dollars).

3. Will my jewelry tarnish?

With proper care, your jewelry will not tarnish for a long time. Our jewelry is never plated, so you are able to wear them day to day with ease of mind.

4. I have sensitive skin, can I wear your jewelry?

Yes, absolutely. Our jewelry is made from hypoallergenic materials, such as sterling silver and solid gold. Sensitive skin can some time have a reaction to copper or nickel. We never ever use nickel in our jewelry as it is not only harmful to your health but to the health of our makers. Jewelry with copper base components are prone to turning your finger green. Therefore we try to minimize the amount of copper used in our jewelry and opt for brass or sterling silver instead.

5. Can I wear your jewelry in water?

Yes, absolutely. You can wear our jewelry into the shower, to sleep, to the sea, as much as you want. Remember to clean it with a warm cloth after contact to keep the shine on your jewelry.

6. Will Sterling Silver tarnish?

Silver will go duller over time. As with any jewelry, it is prone to collect dust, dirt and sweat over prolonged use. To restore the silver to its shine, use a polishing cloth (special type of cloth, you can get this at your jewellers’), or a simple aluminum, baking soda, and water solution to get rid of the gunk.

7. How do I take care of my jewelry?

With any type of jewelry, even solid gold and solid silver, regular cleaning and upkeep is needed to keep your jewelry at its best condition. Simply use warm water and soap or a polishing cloth to clean. You can use our jewelry in water, however do wipe it down with warm water after you’re done, especially after being submerged in salt water. Sweat can also make your jewelry duller quicker, especially necklaces, so remove these when you are working out.
